Hi Shona,

I thought you'd like to hear how Monty is getting on. He has been with us for over a year now (since December 05) and is a wonderful, happy dog, and we adore him.

He settled in very nicely and put on weight to become a big strong, handsome boy. He learned recall very well, and so gets lots of long runs off lead, including days out on the hills with my son and I, as we are keen hill walkers. He gets on great with my son Sam, and was very fond of our terrier, Pippin. Sadly, Pippin died of cancer last summer. She went very quickly and we all missed her terribly, including Monty. He started to go downhill, and was losing weight again, so we found a new friend for him - a little working type Springer pup called Meg. Monty and Meg absolutely adore each other and are great together, (except I have to keep on top of the training, otherwise they start to get naughty and run off together!).

Monty had a bit of a trauma last November when he ran into a snare, but he wasn't far away from me and sensibly made a lot of noise about it so I found him quickly, and he soon made a full recovery. I gave our details to animal welfare organisations campaigning against snaring, and so he was used as a case study while the Executive consultation on whether to ban snaring was ongoing, and he had his story told on Sky News and in the Sunday Mail. I think he rather enjoyed the attention.

Other than that he has stayed healthy and well, and is just a great family dog. We feel like he has always been with us, and are so very glad that we found him, and that you let us re home him. I reckon he is very glad too.

Hi Shona, i was wondering if it was ok to submit a wee piece of writing with Chloe the Lurcher pup we got from you over a year and a half ago?

I wanted to let you know and others what a wonderful little girl she is. Chloe came to us at about 3 months old and was quite timid as she had been taken away from her litter mates. However within a few days she definitely came in to herself and starting showing her true character, exactly as you told us she would.

She has now grown in to a very well adjusted girl, and we love her more than anything. She is fabulous with all dogs and cats and has played regularly with my neighbours kitten. Chloe is not only a loveable family pet, but has also saved our whole family from being in a house fire when she woke us up when the cooker nearly went on fire. If it hadn’t been for Chloe, goodness knows what would've happened

Chloe has been so great infact that we have just recently decided to help with rescue greyhounds and she has proven to be an excellent foster sister and is teaching our Foster dog Belle that life outside her trainers kennel isn't anything to be scared off. Chloe is just so full of character and such a huge part oh our family, i cant imagine life without her.

Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to give this little girl a home, and to have her as a member of our family.

Here is Chloe in all her glory on her favourite walk:

Thank you once again Shona for such a wonderful dog. Keep up the fantastic work you do.

Love from Lisa, Chloe and family xxxxx

This is SPOT who came to Arthurshiel when she was a one year old.   She was rescued by a local family and is now sixteen.  She is great pals with TILLY and they meet regularly at car boot sales.   She always enjoys her fundraising days and will be first in the car on a Sunday morning when the boxes are being loaded.

Over the year we have successfully rehomed many animals - on this page we will highlight just a few.

Tom supervises the handing over of these pups which are all from the Borders and are now on their way to Turkey where they will be trained as disaster dogs and used to trace people trapped by earthquakes

Hi Shona, just thought to send you some pics of Casper. He is doing great, has settled into our home so well. He loves his walks, food, swims, food, sleep , oh!! did i mention food. Everyone who meets him says he is a handsome dog, he is so friendly to everyone, as he has now adopted a "i will sit down and allow you to clap me routine", when he meets someone new. His weight is up, and looking so healthly now he's filled out, your advice of some good "tlc" was so correct, and we thank you for bringing Casper into our lives. All the best to you and we hope you like the pics. Kind regards,

Irina, Rob and Casper Livingstone.

Hello Shona and Tom

Do you remember 3½ years ago when you rescued me – I was all skin and bone – no fat, no muscle, hardly any hair and very smelly! I told you I needed a home with a great big soppy dog to look after tiny wee me. And when Roker, the golden retriever, arrived with his people, I knew that this was the family for me and jumped into the back of the car. They christened me Bertie.

I got lots of great food, lovely walks and am now the tough wee fellow in the picture. Unfortunately, Roker became ill a couple of years later and died, so I had full responsibility for looking after my people.

After about a year, I was getting lonely. This time, I thought it would be good for them to have a girl dog and you found a collie cross for us. We called her Gowan and I helped my people to look after her. She now has a beautiful coat and runs very fast. She has become my very best friend (even better than Roker) and we play together – real doggy growling, biting, rolling games – but we never hurt each other. There are only two problems – one is that she tries to stop me chasing sticks and the other is that she now eats all her food and won’t let me have any!

Thank you from Gowan and me for finding us a lovely home with each other and our people – we love them too!

Love from Bertie

Hi Shona,

Thought you and the others would be interested in how Domino was doing he is one of the Dalmatian puppies you rescued over 3 years ago. He has grown into such a handsome boy who gets on well with all dogs and people. He is especially good with my neice Kaitlyn.  He loves going for his long walks to the beach and hiking in Arran. My mum has him spoilt by giving him a steak for his birthday and christmas. Thank you again for letting us rehome this wonderful dog he is such a joy to own. All the best with the work you do.
